Benches Clear in Cincinnati

In Saturday’s game between the Cincinnati Reds and Chicago Cubs, the benches for both teams cleared as a heated exchange of words was had on the field during the seventh inning. With Amir Garrett on the mound with two outs in the top of the seventh inning, Chicago’s Javier Baez came to the plate. Garrett got the final out by making the Cubs infielder strikeout swinging, letting out a celebratory yell as Baez missed the ball. But things didn’t end there.

Apparently, Baez did not agree with Garrett’s celebration and the two began exchanging words. As the words exchange kept going on, Garrett and Baez inched closer and closer to each other. Ultimately, as seen above, each player’s team came to their aid, possibly to make sure that neither player forgot to say anything that made have been needed to be said.

At the end of it all, Cincinnati walked away from game one of Saturday’s doubleheader the victors. It may have taken 11 innings to find that decision, but fans will take a win any way that they can in Cincinnati these days.
