With reports coming out this week about whether or not Ohio State head football coach Urban Meyer knew about the 2015 domestic abuse allegations towards his former assistant receivers coach Zach Smith. As previously reported, former ESPN college football analyst Brett McMurphy publish a story on his Facebook page Wednesday featuring text messages exchanged between Courtney Smith, Zach Smith’s ex-wife, and Shelley Meyer, Urban Meyer’s wife, discussing actions that Zach took towards Courtney.

The message exchange not only showed pictures of Courtney’s injuries and showed that Shelley was aware that Courtney was afraid of Zach. Shelley mentioned that she would need to tell Urban. With that information, we are able to gather that is where Courtney believes that Urban Meyer had to know what was going on. At Big Ten Media Days last week, Urban Meyer insisted that he knew nothing of the 2015 altercations earlier than a few days before firing Smith from his coaching staff.

After placing Meyer on paid-administrative leave Wednesday evening, Ohio State announced on Thursday that they put together a six-person committee to independently investigate the situation. The committee consists of three board of trustee members and three members not associated with the university. The three trustee members are Alex Fischer, Janet Porter and Alex Shumate, while the non-trustee members are former Ohio House Speaker Jo Ann Davidson, former acting U.S. Deputy Attorney General Craig Morford and former U.S. Attorney for acting U.S. Deputy Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio Carter Stewart. They will work to investigate Meyer and what he did or didn’t know and when he did or didn’t know it.

The beginning of the college football season is only less than a month away, the team needs to proceed as normally as they possibly can. Offensive coordinator Ryan Day was announced as Ohio State’s acting head coach during the investigation over former head coaches Greg Schiano and Kevin Wilson. Some college football analysts have speculated that Meyer’s status of being on paid-administrative leave could mean the beginning of a separation of Meyer from the university. On the other hand, masses of Buckeye fans are supporting Meyer during all of this. Let’s see what the masses have to say.
